How Kominote collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects personal information
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Kominote's websites, applications, marketplace, professional-services marketplace, messaging, organization and community features, payment-related services, and other services that link to this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information such as name, username, email, phone number, profile image, location, language, and account roles.
- Profile and community information such as biography, interests, professional information, affiliations, posts, comments, reactions, and communities followed or joined.
- Business, vendor, and professional information such as business name, categories, descriptions, product/service listings, pricing, qualifications, availability, addresses, and storefront information.
- Verification information used to evaluate business, professional, organization, ownership, identity, or product-origin claims.
- Transaction information such as orders, bookings, quotes, amounts, fees, shipping, payment status, refunds, disputes, payouts, and reviews.
- Messages and support communications.
- Technical information such as IP address, browser, device, operating system, session data, logs, feature usage, and approximate location.
- Location information used for local discovery where enabled.
3. Payment Information
Kominote intends to use qualified third-party payment providers. Depending on the payment system, those providers may collect card, bank, billing, government identification, tax, and payout information. Kominote does not intend to store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes on its own servers.
Kominote may receive limited payment information such as transaction identifiers, payment status, payment method type, last four digits of a card, payout status, and fraud or risk information.
4. Shipping and Delivery
For physical-product transactions, Kominote may process recipient names, shipping addresses, delivery instructions, phone numbers where necessary for delivery, shipping methods, carriers, tracking numbers, and delivery confirmations. Relevant information may be shared with sellers, carriers, or fulfillment providers as necessary to complete the transaction.
5. How We Use Information
- Create and maintain accounts and authenticate users.
- Operate marketplace, booking, messaging, organization, project, and event features.
- Process transactions, orders, bookings, refunds, and seller payouts.
- Provide shipping, tracking, and customer support.
- Verify businesses, professionals, organizations, and qualifying claims.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, account takeover, and prohibited activity.
- Resolve disputes and enforce Platform policies.
- Personalize search, recommendations, and content.
- Measure, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Platform.
- Send transactional notifications and, where permitted, marketing communications.
- Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.
6. How Information May Be Shared
Other Users
Information intentionally made public may be visible to other users, including public profiles, storefronts, professional profiles, listings, reviews, posts, organizations, and events.
Transaction Participants
Information necessary to complete a transaction may be shared between buyers, sellers, and service providers.
Service Providers
Kominote may share information with vendors that provide hosting, databases, payments, verification, fraud prevention, shipping, communications, analytics, customer support, and security services, subject to appropriate contractual and legal safeguards.
Legal and Safety Reasons
Kominote may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate fraud, enforce agreements, protect the Platform, or protect users and others.
Business Transactions
Information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.
7. Selling Personal Information
Kominote does not state that it sells personal information to advertisers for money. If future advertising or data practices materially change, this Policy will be updated and legally required choices will be provided.
8. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Kominote may use cookies, local storage, SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, cart functionality, fraud prevention, analytics, performance, and marketing measurement. Where required, Kominote will obtain consent for non-essential technologies and provide appropriate controls.
9. Data Security
Kominote will use reasonable administrative, organizational, and technical safeguards, which may include encryption in transit, secure password hashing, role-based access control, secure sessions, server-side authorization, audit logs, rate limiting, signed webhooks, secure payment integrations, monitoring, and backup procedures. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
10. Data Retention
Kominote retains information as reasonably necessary to provide the Platform, maintain accounts, complete transactions, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, meet tax/accounting requirements, comply with law, and enforce agreements. Account deletion does not necessarily require immediate deletion of transaction, tax, fraud, dispute, or legally required records.
11. User Privacy Rights
Depending on jurisdiction, users may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or obtain copies of personal information, withdraw consent where applicable, opt out of certain marketing, and exercise other statutory rights. Kominote may verify identity before fulfilling a request and will not unlawfully discriminate against users for exercising applicable privacy rights.
12. Marketing Communications
Users may opt out of promotional emails using the unsubscribe mechanism provided. Transactional and account communications, including security, purchase, booking, shipping, payment, refund, and policy notices, may still be sent where necessary.
13. International Users
Kominote may serve users in multiple countries. Personal information may therefore be processed in jurisdictions different from the user's country of residence. Where required, Kominote will use appropriate legal mechanisms for international data transfers.
14. Children
Kominote is not intended for children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by law. Certain commerce and payout functions may require users to be adults. If Kominote learns that information was collected from a child in violation of applicable law, reasonable steps will be taken to address or delete it.
15. Automated Systems
Kominote may use automated systems to assist with search ranking, recommendations, fraud detection, spam detection, content moderation, and marketplace integrity. Where legally required, Kominote will provide information or rights concerning automated decisions that produce legally significant or similarly substantial effects.
16. Changes to This Policy
Kominote may update this Privacy Policy as its technology, business model, and legal obligations evolve. Material changes may be announced through the Platform, email, or account notices.
